I was recently asked if there were any WordPress plugins that we always start every new WordPress site with, which made me think, is there a set of plugins that are a must for every WordPress site we build?
Before I get into writing up a list of WordPress plugins, I should state that not every single site needs the same setup as another, so while some plugins might be brilliant for certain sites, they might not be needed on others. That being said, here’s a list of plugins that I find that I end up using at least 90% of the time, and I’d imagine that you would too, although always remember to ask yourself before each install if it’s really needed.
The WordPress plugins
- WordPress SEO by Yoast – There’s quite a few WordPress plugins that claim to be able to improve your WordPress SEO, but WordPress SEO by Yoast is by far the best as it does that along with having a snippet preview that let’s you see a rendering of what your post or page will look like in search results.
- Google Analyticator – The Google Analyticator plugin installs Google’s Analytics javascript code on your website and it also displays a widget on your dashboard that displays key performance metrics for your site over the last 30 days.
- Contact Form 7 – Contact Form 7 can manage multiple contact forms, plus you can customise the form and the mail contents flexibly with simple markup.
