We were approached by Blue-Bag to help them with a new responsive website for Kew Royal Botanical Gardens to support the Reforestation of the Atlantic Forest. Drupal specialists Blue-Bag were tasked with converting an existing database into a multilingual CMS based web site. We at SketchCode Studio were tasked with the front-end design and code for desktop and mobile devices.
The brief was to design a website that would fit within the ‘family’ of other Kew Gardens’ websites – a clean yet precise website that would showcase the powerful features delivered by the Drupal CMS platform.
A colour palette sympathetic to the subject was decided upon and Helvetica was chosen as the web safe font to work seamlessly across multiple languages.
The website loads the mobile site first, then tablet, then desktop. This enables mobile devices to only load the content they require, which helps the site load as fast as possible for users who may not have access to Wifi or are unable to access faster mobile networks.
The result is an impressive multi-lingual, searchable, content rich database. Fronted by speed focussed front-end code and a clear functional design – that the client was very pleased with.
