The Somerset Cheese Company are based in Ditcheat, Somerset. They specialise in making award winning, delicious handmade cheeses.

Their old website wasn’t reflecting the quality of their delicious wares (we can vouch for how delicious they are. We of course had to taste their cheeses as part of our research!). Their previous eCommerce section was hardly functional and also linked out to a different url which is not good for SEO.

They wanted a bold, strong and confident eCommerce website design that’s easy to navigate their product range, in addition to working seamlessly on any device. They also wanted a blog news section that they could update themselves with news stories and notices of which markets they attend.

We built them a customised eCommerce website design with WooCommerce providing the eCommerce functionality.

Our Process
Looking at the analytic data from the old site helped us to highlight the areas which needed improving. These included increasing the default text size and putting more emphasis on the individual products.

Once we had established a typeface and colour pallet, we created an initial design visual of the website home page. We wanted to get the client involved in the design process as soon as possible so they can provide feedback.

We created wireframes for the layout of the pages and a couple more Photoshop visuals to further establish a style guide for the website.

We redesigned the checkout user experience from the ground up to ensure a smooth user experience.

The finished website uses beautiful photos of their cheese to highlight the quality along with a colour palette that provides a subtly rustic yet playful backdrop. The site is responsive and looks great when viewed on a mobile, tablet or desktop computer.

After launching
We trained Anita, Somerset Cheese Co. Owner on how to use the WordPress CMS, as well as using social networks like Facebook and Twitter to further promote their work.
