Designing a dog training website
With the help of Michelle, we created a map of the site which included all the pages and their associated structure. Following this, we worked on some wireframe layouts so we could all be in agreement of where the content should be placed on each page.
We then designed visuals in Adobe XD to finalise some of the remaining design details such as colour schemes and which fonts to use.
When we were all happy with the proposed website redesign, we moved on to the coding phase.
This involved us developing a bespoke WordPress theme that built in a lot of the required functionality. Doing this minimises the chance of any conflicting plugins on the Cleary Canines WordPress website in the future.
As the website needed an ecommerce element, we added in the WooCommerce plugin. No need to reinvent the wheel by creating our own ecommerce system when WooCommerce does everything the site needs from an online shop.
From her Bristol base, Michelle runs multiple different training courses, most of which get fully booked, so she needed a way to keep visitors to her website updated on what courses are coming up. We developed a series of “What’s On” modules that she can update herself for each training course, and then all of these also get displayed on the home page of the website as well as their individual course pages. This makes it easy for Michelle to manage, while also providing her visitors with an easy way to view what’s on.
Finishing up
The final website is developed on WordPress to ensure its future proof and the online store uses the WooCommerce plugin, so the site is build to last in addition to performing exceedingly well.
Full Testimonial: “As an experienced and successful dog trainer I needed a site that presented my services in the professional way they are delivered to the client. My previous home-made site just didn’t cut it. Try as I might, I had to admit defeat and acknowledge my skills lay elsewhere.
I had spoken to other web designers and none had left me confident my thoughts had been taken on board. Undaunted by my lack of any idea how these things are done, Liam first emailed me some thoughts on my current site, and then we spoke at length on the phone to really tease out what I wanted, and also what would work.
Working with Liam at LCUK has been so easy, and at each stage I’ve had the opportunity to review and change or adapt what’s there, until it all came together in the finished product. Communication was always prompt and clear, and very helpful. The finished website is perfect for my small business; clear, simple to access and navigate for my clients, easy for me to edit as needed (thank you for your patient training) and will be such an asset.”
